Me with Gillian Anderson & David Duchovny at the Spooky Empire convention, Orlando, Florida, October 27, 2018.

Dear X-Files:

Thank you for being such an important part of my life for over 25 years.

Thank you for making my young adult Friday nights good. The rest of the week may have been 50 shades of awful, but Friday nights at 9:00 p.m. were always good. Thank you for the stories that made me laugh, cry, sit at the edge of my seat and, on occasion, scream at the TV.

Thank you for giving me a positive example of a loving long-term relationship when I had none in my real life to look to.

Thank you for giving me and other women and girls such a strong female lead to look up to; Dana Scully is as important now as she was in 1993, when there was no other character like her on TV.

Thank you for the friends I’ve made in this fandom. I would have never met these fine people otherwise.

Finally, thank you for helping me find my way back to writing. After having lost my way for over a decade, I began reading X-Files fanfic during the most recent season. Then, I began writing my own. I rediscovered the joy of writing, and I rediscovered myself as both a fiction writer and a copywriter.

The series may be over, but Fox Mulder, Dana Scully, and the universe they inhabit will live forever in the hearts and imaginations of millions of fans. The truth will always be out there.

Regards,

Teresa Rothaar
